The Extraordinary meeting of the Scientific and Technical Committee of the Pelagos Agreement will be held on Monday, July 5th and Friday, July 9th, 2021 by videoconference.
Observers wishing to take part to the meeting are invited to contact the Permanent Secretariat of the Pelagos Agreement at the following address: secretariat@pelagos-sanctuary.org no later than Tuesday, June 1st, 2021.
The results of the Public consultation on the Pelagos Sanctuary, conducted in November 2020 and carried out in the framework of the assessment on the current Management Plan (2016-2022) and the new Management Plan (2022-2027) of the Agreement, are online.
After two weeks of consultation, more than 180 persons responded to the questionnaire: from representatives of the Parties to the Agreement to researchers, to sea users and International Organizations, the responses demonstrated a real interest in the Sanctuary and a strong desire to contribute to the achievement of the Agreement's objectives.

The consultation for the assessment of the 2016-2022 Management Plan and the drafting of the 2022-2027 Management Plan of the Pelagos Agreement reached its conclusion.
You can give your opinion and formulate suggestions on the final draft of the Management Plan (2022-2027) of the Pelagos Agreement by clicking here to fill-in the questionnaire.
This questionnaire can be filled-in and modified until May 24th, 2021. You are not obliged to respond to all the questions.
The data gathered will be confidential and will furnish suggestions to further refine the Management Plan of the Agreement.

On Tuesday April 27th, 2021, a young individual of Grey whale (Eschrichtius robustus) has been observed off the ligurian coast.
This is an extraordinary event because the Grey whale is not one of the regularly observed species in the Pelagos Sanctuary.

The Pelagos Agreement is an associated partner of the Interreg Med - Plastic Busters MPAs project, which aims to preserve the biodiversity of natural ecosystems through actions to fight against marine litter.
It is within this framework that one virtuous Italian and French municipalities, signatories of the Pelagos Partnership Charter and located in the area where the monitoring had been carried out, are given the opportunity to apply one or more management measures identified in the project.
The Municipalities of Vecchiano (Italy, Pisa Province) and Saint-Florent (France, Haute-Corse) have expressed their interest in participating to the project and will thus be able to benefit from the expertise of a Consultant made for a free implementation of the above-mentioned management measures during the summer 2021.
The Pelagos Agreement congratulates the Municipalities of Vecchiano and Saint-Florent for their commitment!

The Pelagos Agreement took part in the 12th edition of the Monaco Blue Initiative, held at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco and in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.
Among the thematics addressed this year were:
- the role of international negotiations for better ocean governance;
- the integration of Ocean issues and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into companies’ Corporate Social Responsibility strategy;
- the role of the financial sector in managing risks related to biodiversity loss and financing the sustainable blue economy.

The Final meeting on the Management Plan of the Pelagos Agreement took place on Wednesday, March 17th, 2021, by videoconference.
This meeting allowed a first exchange on the draft of the next Management Plan (2022-2027) of the Pelagos Agreement between the representatives of the Parties to the Agreement and the national experts, in the presence of the Heads of Delegation to the Scientific and Technical Committee. The document will be submitted to a public consultation during the month of April 2021.
The Management Plan (2022-2027) will be proposed for consideration to the Extraordinary Scientific and Technical Committee and approved during the 8th Meeting of the Parties to the Agreement.
In the framework of the 5th edition of the Monaco Ocean Week (March 22nd-28th, 2021), Pelagos, ACCOBAMS and RAMOGE Agreements mobilize to raise awareness on the impact of marine litter on biodiversity and marine mammals.
